Hello! 

I’m Michelle, a children's book illustrator based in Lafayette, Indiana, and author who specializes in both traditional and digital media. As a proud mother of three daughters, I have spent over 20 years in the creative field, primarily working as a custom stained glass window designer. 

My journey as Michelle Denise Wood Illustration began with a constant passion for doodling from childhood. Much of my training stems from hand-drawing client work for window projects, which has surprisingly equipped me for my role as a picture book illustrator. I find joy and excitement in transforming new ideas into vibrant illustrations for children's books. 

Some of my favorite subjects to illustrate include outdoor scenes, foliage, children, and animals in unexpected settings.

I am a student of Children's Book Illustration at the University of California San Diego Extension, where I am honing my skills as a childrens book illustrator. Additionally, I am a proud member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, which is the international professional organization for authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults. As a Lafayette Indiana illustrator, I aim to expand my reach and showcase my work, especially under my brand, Michelle Denise Wood Illustration. Through my passion as a picture book illustrator, I strive to create captivating stories that resonate with young readers.
